Our criminal defence team provide competent efficient legal advice regarding your defence and are able to offer effective representation from the police station through all the criminal courts. They have been providing our clients representation for several years, and have acted in some landmark
cases.
We have acted in and gained experience in all areas of criminal law, from minor offences like shoplifting to serious crimes like murder, fraud, serious sexual offences, serious drug offences, firearm offences modern day slavery, terrorism and conspiracies.
Motoring Offences
We provide assistance in relation to summary only motoring offences under Part I of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and s89 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984..
The most common types of these offences include:
- Drink driving
- Drug driving
- Failing to provide a specimen in connection with a drink or drug related case
- Driving without due care and attention
- Speeding
- Failing to provide driver details
- Failing to stop/report after an accident

We believe in operating an open and transparent pricing structure. To this end, we do not charge excessive fees, nor are we the cheapest option, but we will work with you to achieve the best result possible in the circumstances of your case.

Motoring Offence Fees
What’s the average cost of defending a motoring case?
Type of fee: Fixed Fee
Costs: Average fee of £1200.00 (plus VAT). Please note VAT is currently charged at 20% hence 20% should be added to any fee or disbursement that includes VAT.
The Fixed Fee will depend on the circumstances in your case. Such as:
- The amount of supporting evidence that we need to consider
- Which language(s) you speak
- Whether it is a straightforward Guilty plea
- Unforeseen complexities
What services are included in this cost?
- 2 hours initial attendance to take initial instructions on what happened
- Considering initial disclosure and any other evidence and provide advice.
- Providing advice on likely sentence
- Detailing the key issues
- If relevant meeting with you before your First hearing at the Magistrates Court.
- Explaining the court procedure to you so you know what to expect on the day of your hearing, and the sentencing options available to the court.
- Conducting any further preparatory work, obtaining further instructions from you if necessary and dealing with any follow up queries you have.
- Attendance and representation at the First hearing at the Magistrates Court
- Discussing outcome of the hearing with you.
The costs quoted here do not include:
- Instruction of any expert witnesses (Approx. £1,500.00 plus VAT)
- Taking/preparing statements from any witnesses (this will depend on complexity of your case)
- Advice and assistance in relation to a special reasons hearing
- Our fee for attendance and/or preparation for any further hearings following the initial hearing (Approx. £600.00 plus VAT per hearing)
- If relevant advice on any appeal. Separate fee can be agreed for:
- Dealing with any Appeal
- Drafting ground of appeal
- The cost of fully preparing any appeal.
We will let you know at the earliest opportunity and before any such fees are incurred by yourself, if any of these are applicable.
Timescales
We cannot provide a timescale of when your hearing will take place, as this depends on the court listings.
Please note the anticipated number of hours and fees are an estimate based on the facts above. All applications are likely to vary and of course, we can give you a more accurate estimate once we have more information about your specific case.

Our team has over 20 years’ experience in delivering high quality work ensuring our clients receive appropriate legal advice across the full spectrum of driving offences. We have acted on all types of road traffic law including driving bans, failing to stop, careless driving, dangerous driving, alcohol and drugs related offences as well as regulatory offences such as driving without insurance, driving without a valid licence, speeding totting up and driving whilst disqualified. We have four team members who may work on your matter. Regardless of who works on your matter, they will be supervised by Femi Joshua, partner and Head of the Criminal department.
